Hackers Stole $150 Million From KuCoin Cryptocurrency Exchange

KuCoin, a Singapore based cryptocurrency exchange was hacked on September 26, 2020.

Hackers successfully managed to steal over $150 million worth of cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin (BTC), ethereum (ETH) amounting to $10 million were stolen and some lesser-known altcoins namely Digitex (DGTX), Synnex (SNX), Dragonchain (DRGN) etc amounting to about $145 million were also stolen.

Hackers basically exploited hot wallet of the exchange and stole all the funds kept in it.

Soonafter, KuCoin suspended all its trades and its CEO Johnny Lyu started a livestream and promised the victims that all their funds will be returned to them as they covered by company’s insurance policy.

Some reports also suggest that actual stolen amount might be as much as $280 million.
